Hunting with subsonics. Effective range, shot placement?
My experience with body shots on deer and pigs has been dismal. Out of 6 animals, I've recovered 1.
I've tried 220 SMK, 208 AMAX, 187 Gemtech, 200 Lehigh ME (twice) and 220 grain Noveske round nose. The SMK, AMAX and Gemtech apparently zipped through with no expansion. Only found a couple of small blood drops with them. I found ok blood with the Lehighs but my guess is they didn't pass through. It was like tracking a bad shot on a bow shot deer.
The only one that I have recovered is this guy.
He is the one I shot with the Noveske subs. I shot him square in the shoulder on the close side, exited in the arm pit on the far size with about a quarter size hole.
Reacted exactly like he was hit with a broad head. He ran about 40 yards, stopped, turned around looking around trying to figure out what happened, got the jelly legs and fell over. Completely took out the heart.
All of these shots were at bow ranges (30 yards and in).
It's my least preferred method.

most deer don't really go anywhere, run 20-30 yards wondering what happened, then fall over dead
