I just picked up a used Remington Model 7 in .260 Rem. Looking for ammo recommendations. I do not reload, so needs to be factory loads. I picked up a box of Federal Fusion 120 gr. And a box of Federal 140 gr. Sierra Gameking BTSP because those were the two Carters Country had. Gonna try them later this evening. Just curious if anyone had any recommendations for this cartridge, especially out of the Model 7. Will be used by my gf in South Texas for deer and pigs under 200 yards. I will ultimately shoot what groups best out of the rifle, but curious to on game performance.

I know that the .260 has better potential if you reload. And ideally, I would like to have a little longer barrel than the 20" on the model 7. But, I got the gun at a very good bargain and reloading just isn't an option at this time. Was just seeing if there were any other model 7 shooters out there that had found an ammo their gun liked.

In a factory load the Nosler 125gr partition is hard to beat.
If you don't mind something a little more custom check out this:
He can also load pretty much any bullet you're looking for.
I've been reloading mainly 129sst, 140 berger, and now 143 eldx for my 260ai with good results.
I just saw that midway has the 129sst loaded in their superformance line, no idea how it shoots though

I bought a ss .260 model 7 20" when they first came out.
I was never able to find a load I liked for accuracy.
Killed lots of game with it, but it never seemed to be as accurate as you expected. Light barrel did heat up quick
FWIW. I ran several types of factory and even hand loads thru it
I hope mine was a lemon and yours performs well. I love the chambering for Texas hunting.

I remember there was a recoil reduced load. The handloads I shot were loaded by a friend. Had the factory barrel replaced by R.E.M. Free. Second barrel was replaced by smith in Hempstead with a .24 inch. Pointed better (Better balance) but shot no better. Trigger jobs and bedding didn't help. I spent a fortune on that gun and ended up shooting my cheap Stevens .270 for the past 10 years.
Here is an old link FWIW
