      I've got 8 grandkids and just purchased the first rifle for one of them, 25-06, so I've put some thought into what should work for young hunters.

      This is the list of calibers I plan to make available to them;
      25-06, 6.5cm, 243, 7mm-08.

      I picked these because even though they are all light recoil rifles, they are also calibers that will last them a lifetime.

          I would suggest sticking to common calibers for guns you plan to hand down. Very few people reload.

          Absolutely agree. Don't get into specilaty calibers.

          223, 22-250, 243, 308, 30-06.

          And everyone needs at least one 30-30.

            I got into reloading after 30. My grandfather died when I was 15 and he had accumulated quite a collection of reloading stuff that, now, I would value at more than $10k. several thousand rounds worth of materials to reload each caliber (.45, 38, 357, 30 carbine, 30-30, 380, etc etc etc). 3 different dillon progressive presses, and boxes of other items. At 15 years old, I had no desire to reload and declined keeping all the items. they were gifted to a friend of his who worked with him at the sherrifs office. Looking back, I still kick myself for not accepting my grandmothers offer to give it to me!!! That is why I suggested going with more common caliber if the plan was to pass the guns down. This is what I have left of his collection we found in the attic.
