    DPMS AR-10 accuracy issues

I was asked by a buddy to take a look at his rifle, he is a total newb to the AR world. I've got a lot of experience with AR15's, but this is my first foray in the AR10. This rifle will stack a couple rounds into an inch, then throw a flyer 8" away. I suspect it is a scope or mounting issue. He bought the rifle and scope at Basspro, and they mounted the scope for him, a Nikon P223 in 3-9.

Is there anything to look for specifically on the AR10 vs the AR15 that would cause the fliers? I haven't yet looked at anything other than visually checking for tightness/ etc.

    In to learn.

But if I were in your shoes I would try a different scope first thing

Yep, that's the first thing I will do. I've got a 1-4 on a QD mount that I know works well I will swap over.

I'd also recommend you have your buddy take that scope back to bass pro and get the one that's made for .308 instead of the one made for a .223

Something is loose. If the scope and mount is tight, check the barrel nut. I've seen AR15 barrels get loose after handguards were changed.

A problem I ran into once was a feeding issue. Every now and them during chambering the front of the round would get wacked so hard on the nose of the bullet it would deform it in the case and cause fliers. Could single load and it would should bug holes. Ended up having to increase the crimp. Still shot better single loading.

I would wager you have ring/base issue. My buddy just went through it with a Wyndham AR-10. Had a Bobro holding a SWFA 3-15 and it would shoot 4 rounds into 2" at 300 and then chunck one. He would even get 4" POI shifts from one day to the next. Ended up being the mount.
