    Elk hunting

I will be elk hunting with a .30-06. Will 165 gr. bullets work or should I shoot 180 gr.?

I always prefer 180 in a 30-06. Just be sure to run the calculations and make sure the bullets have enough energy at whatever range you are likely to be shooting.

I use 180gr NAB but a good friend and outfitter uses 165 out of his 7mag. Both will work fine. I use 140 NAB out if my 270 wsm.

Many, many elk have been killed with smaller bullets. Shot placement ! You will be fine as long as you put the medicine where the pain is.

Shoot the ones that shoot best in your rifle

Shoot a premium bullet. Barnes, Accubond, Scirrocco, etc. both weights are adequate with proper shot placement. Elk are tough! If he is still standing, keep shooting.

165gr Nossler Accubonds worked for me. Dropped a bull in his tracks with a shoulder shot at 200 yds with my 308.

will work fine. Just got 2 elks using 140gr Berger bullets. Shot Placement is key.

                  165 is plenty.

I have shot a number of elk when I was younger and shooting a 270 with 130 gr bullets. Your 160 gr bullets are plenty.
