    Reloading 12g and 20g

I've been reloading metallic cartridges for 5 years. It never for shotguns. I've watched some videos and have done some reading but I still cannot decide what equipment to purchase. I've looked at the mec 600 jr single stage which to have good reviews.

If I wanted to start with a single stage, under $400, what are you guys using?

Where are you guys ordering hulls, wading etc?

Any other advice before I start reloading mainly for clays right now.

    Thanks

How much are you shooting? It's hard to come out reloading 12 and 20 gauge, unless you're loading a specialty shell such as buckshot, slugs, steel shot or turkey loads.

Hulls I scrounge the interweb from, however shot and wads come from Ballistic Products, or I source locally when I have the time. Same for powder. The only thing I save money on is my Turkey and upland loads. Its a wash for target loads, but I was able to make them pattern more consistently, which was important for my son with his 20ga. With my 12ga, I was able to keep the pattern similar, but with less recoil. I use a MEC Jr in 12ga with the adjustable MEC charge bar, and a 20ga Lee Load All. We shoot more 12 than 20, but I am able to do a case of 20ga at a time for my son comfortably. A search for a used Mec for the 20ga is ongoing.

When I reloaded for 12 and 20, I used MEC Grabber (750's)... still have them but haven't actually used them in years... Do have them and many components just in case there's another shortage or SHTF and I need ammo... Only one I use currently is for .410 bore. I have a 600 jr. that I originally reloaded 2 1/2" shell for, but now since I only hunt with the .410, I converted it over to 3" hulls... I tried the Grabber 750 for .410, but those little hulls just didn't feed consistently enough and shot/wad dump was just too hard to make the progressive loader work for me on the small gauge. Hard to make reloading for just target/skeet/dove work financially if you don't already have plenty hulls...

...and you'll curse the day you even thought about reloading shot shells the first time you spill a bag of shot on the deck. I ended up having to buy mama a new vacuum cleaner out of the deal, and of course, I had to show her how great it works for about 6 months afterwards.

          Good luck,

          Dave

            I have a 12ga MEC 600 or 650 I should sell you...I don't think I'm going to reload anymore. I also have one for 16ga.

I REALLY need to have a garage cleanup sale!! Too much crap sitting around not getting used.
