    Anyone shoot a 338 Lapua

I have been fortunate this year and have bought several guns that I have been wanting and also several gun just because that were cool. But I have been thinking about buying a 338 lapua. Not sure what I would use it for but just in case the time comes I will have it.

Do any of you have one or have shot one. Can you give me some goods and bads about it other than expensive to shoot. I'm more wanting to know about performance of the gun.

    Thanks

I have the RUM and have shot my buddies Lap several times. To be honest, ex for the distance, my '06 will do everything the 338 will do but I know where you are coming from.

I have a Sako TRG 42 in 338LM. It's one of the best factory rifles going chambered in that round. It's trigger is just plain awesome and te accuracy is outstanding. The 1:10 twist will handle the 300gr pills and they hit hard. The recoil can be a bit harsh when shooting prone without a brake or suppressor but I have both so it's not that big of deal.
I have several hundred pieces of Lapua brass and don't hot rod it much so $2+ each they will last me a while. This rifle/round isn't for everyone but it's a cool toy to have in my arsenal.

Sweet gun, what bipod is that. I need one for my 6.5 Creedmoor and my 308.

It's an older F Class bipod made by Sinclair International. Very stable, the skis ride well it has lots of adjustment. The newer ones have a slight difference in appearance.

The 338 Lapua leaves the old 06 behind in everything, it's in different league league.

I do not currently own one but I have shot the Sako and the Barrett M98B. I liked the ergonomics of the Barrett better but that just comes down to personal preference. Both are quality guns. I did shoot the Barrett out to 1800 yards. If you would like a semi auto look at the KIVAARI.

I have a savage 110 ba in 338L, fun rifle to shoot. Mine is more accurate than I thought it would be recoil is not bad at, but it's also an 18lb rifle. If you reload it's somewhat economical to shoot depending on your brass life. I'm using Norma brass H1000 and 285gr ELD match bullets, makes 1-1.5" groups at 200 yards. Farthest I have been able to shoot is steel at 600 yards and can't wait to shoot it at a more suitable distance for that round.

My experience with 338L is limited to the one shot I made my buddy's rifle. At 200 yards it broke both front shoulders on monster Aoudad ram. Rams are tough and its rare to have one drop in his tracks. Again, very limited experience, but the results were very impressive.

My brother and dad each have the savage 110 FCP HS Precision. They use theirs for long range elk and mule deer. We reload and I do know it's been expensive getting all set up and started for them but now they have their perfect loads down and they are pretty accurate. Shooting 1000yds on our range is pretty easy to do with those guns and round. As far as recoil, my 7 mag kicks more, but it's also 7lbs compared to 14lbs. Ear protection is a must as well. Overall great gun and caliber, I just don't have a desire for one.

My buddy has a Savage 110BA. It is a ball to shoot, and is lights out with 250 and 300gn projectiles. That rifle is heavy enough that the recoil is negligible, I would let my daughter shoot it.

Ammo price is coming down, but he's working on some reload recipes (H1000 powder, Lapua brass, 215M primer, Lapua projectiles)

I forgot to add the part about the muzzle blast. You only forget your ear protection once!
