    Laser boresighters

Who uses them and how much do you depend on them? When I first got one, I'm talking the cartridge style, I thought it should almost replace range sight-in. WRONG
Maybe I'm doing it wrong but when I set my crosshairs exactly on that red dot reflecting off something 75-100 yards away, I'm never closer than a few inches when I go to the range. That is on AR platforms. With my .308 bolt gun I may not even be on paper. Why?

I think they are more or less just to get you close on paper, alot also depends on how high your scope is above your barrel. They are just a good starting point to get you on paper at 25 to 50 yds to keep from waisting ammo and heating up your barrel.

This! They are to do exactly what they say, bore sight a scope to make sighting in much easier. Last rifle I had bore sighted was probably 15-20 years ago. It was done with a little target gizmo on a tapered rod that fit in the bore. Worked pretty good. First shot was within 6" so it was easy to dial in.

For a bolt gun save your money.

Just pull the bolt put the gun on something stable (bags, gun vice, lead sled) and look through the barrel find something 50 to 100 yards away through the barrel. Once you have a stable gun and a target through the barrel look through the scope and adjust. That should put you on paper, and that is all a laser bore site is good for.

I do this with my ARs too. Just pull the takedown pin, remove the bolt, and look down the barrel. I have a multi-caliber laser boresighter, and this technique gives me equal results with less hassle.

I have used an inexpensive laser and have not had any success at all with it so i bought a used bsa set and it is near perfect.at first shooting at 50 yds it will be very close to being on target.it has been used on several different calibers and id always very close.
