Leupold illuminated reticle- custom shop

I'm gonna buy a VX 6 today that'll eventually go to the custom shop for a custom illuminated reticle. My question is, should I buy an illuminated reticle scope, so the internal electronics are already in there; or should I buy an un-illuminated reticle scope and have it all installed by custom shop?

I'm thinking it would be cheaper to switch one illuminated reticle for another, from the custom shop. Is that what y'all would think? Anyone have experience with this?

Anyone have a ballpark price for a reticle swap from the custom shop?

You have to buy an illuminated scope first, not 100% sure LEU will change the existing reticle to any specific one you want

I asked LEU to swap out a fine plex VX3 6.5-20 to the pig plex and they wouldn't do it. Only certain reticles will fit in certain model scopes

You may have to special order it directly from the Custom Shop and it will be big $$$

I'd buy an illuminated reticle to start with and like CB stated they still may not do it.

Looking on their website recently it appeared that a retical upgrade was $90.

They will only install one in a scope that has illumination and the options are very slim. I recently asked for one of my vx6 scopes. They will NOT install illumination into a scope without.

You need to check with leupold on the specifics of which reticle you're wanting.

Yeah I wanted the illuminated TMOA in mine. No go. The options really suck for illuminated ones.

I've been pleased with the Illuminated Wind Plex on my vx6 and am thinking of getting another. It has no vertical sub-tensions but does have them on the horizontal plane graduated to 1 MOA.

I sight in at 200 know how many inches i drop to 300 and will dial if time permits. It's one of the few from the big L with MOA sub-tensions and illumination.

Most of their recitals are more of a marketing gimmick then true LR recitals...IMO.

I think that may be true in a VX6 since it uses Firedot technology I had a Mark 4 non illuminated that they put an illuminated TMR in for $300.

What I WANT is the TMOA plus reticle with a firedot. I was hoping that the "custom" shop could build it but that's looking less and less likely. I ended up getting the illuminated varmint hunter in the 3-18x44. I already have the 50mm version and I do like it. Just wanted to cut a little weight and have a lower profile. If I can't customize it the way I want, it's still going to be a great hunting scope. For my normal uses it'll do what I need and I can dial for precision if I need to.

Sent my VariX IIc 3-9 in to have the std duplex swapped for the heavy duplex--cost was $50 or so as I recall plus shipping.

TMOA plus is only in the higher power vx6 too if I recall but you basically want what I do. If they tell you it can be done let me know. I've asked more than once hoping it changes haha

If anyone is near cabelas in buda there's a used firedot in the bargain cave for like 170 under 'retail' but they don't have the sale price added (899) if someone wants to go through the trouble you could probably walk out with it for $730. It looks brand new

Now, doesn't that sound like a sensible reticle? All these giant illuminated reticles that are all but useless. If they've changed their mind, I'll shoot you a pm.
