    Barnes Bullets

Anyone running them through a 220 swift or 22-250 for deer this year ?
Just looking for some results from people that actually have used or using them .

I've been around them being run out of a .222 and .223 although those we're my cousins and not me. Those were I think 55 gn TSX's and they worked pretty dang well

My 8 year old shoots them in his .22-250. 55 gr. TSX. Switched over from the PSPs. Great results so far.

I used 55 gr tsx on 223 last year on two does and two bucks. No blood trails to speak of so I try to break at least one shoulder if not both. You need to make a good shot. I hit one buck a little forward and didn't find him until the next day (buddy and I both agreed something larger would have dropped him a lot sooner).

I've shot TSK's since they came out and I'll say this.

If they do not hit bone you won't have a blood trail. A high or even a medium lung shot and just hope you get lucky because until that deer lays down there will be no blood. There might be a drop or two where the deer was standing but after that nada, zip.

Great bullet but if it doesn't hit something solid it leaves the same size hole going out as it did going in.

They work fantastic if pushed to high velocity. The results are pretty dramatic actually.

On milder rounds like 308 and such they do not perform as well.

What are your thoughts on them in 7mm-08 or 243?

That's why I was wanting to push them as fast as I could in the swift

I tried the 50gr Tsx in the 22-250AI I picked up from here. It didnt group them well at all. Probably 2" group at 100.

38 grs Hogdon 380 behind the 55gr bullet in the 22-250 should be good for a max load. Lots of 223 and 22-250 guns may not like a boat tail bullet. I know mine didn't group as well with them. The barnes bullets were an exception.
One thing about these size bullets is that you are relying on hydrostatic shock to do most of the work so they need to be at or near max velocity.

We have shot lots of deer & hogs with 120g factory TTSX loads in 7-08. Accurate, kills well but animal will run 50+ yards with no blood trail every time if you don't take out the shoulders.

As Mike said, these bullets need to be shot lite and fast.
