    Anyone load 260? Have questions

I recently had a 260 built and took it to the range for the first time this weekend. I loaded various rounds using Lapua brass, BR2 primers, 140gr hybrids and H4350 powder. The gun is a 1:8 schilen select match barrel on a Remington blueprinted/trued action. I used 41.5-45 grains of powder measured .015 off the lands. I have not seen any pressure signs even above max load and have received information from a competitive shooter that he uses 45.6 grains (very hot). My best shots were in the 41.7 range at around 2,700FPS, although at 45 grains it was around 2,900FPS. Unfortunately the 41.7 range only gave me .63 groups. This should be a one hole gun! Any suggestions on what I should try next?

It is very frustrating to shoot one hole groups with a 700 SPS 308 with minor upgrades and shooting more than 1/2" groups with a gun that cost 5X more.

might give some Varget powder a try.

I get 1/2 groups with a 700 mountain rifle with Varget Powder,120 grain Barnes tipped TSX bullets, Remington brass and Fed BR primers.

I have plenty of Varget (I never thought I would say that) that I will try. I saw all of the other loaders using H4350 as the primary powder for 260, but maybe the Varget will do a little better, just slower.

        Thanks

On a new gun, cartridge and caliber, it's going to take some time to find what it likes.

Pm me I'll give you a number of a guy who will know for sure. I shot his 260 last year and took this deer at 385 yards. And I might be the worst shot on the planet. He used to shoot long range matches. He said this gun would shoot tennis ball sized groups at 1000 yards if he could pull it off.

              ^ This! FWIW, I shoot 139 scenars with 48.5g of H4831sc at 2920 in my .260 Ackley.

Might want to do a ladder test with the bullet you want to shoot just off of or kissing the lands, and then go from there.
