    bullet deflection??

Had a big black fat hog coming to the feeder last night. He is in some tall switch grass. Thought I was all over him. Shooting 75 grain Hornady's out of my AR. My question is do the experts on here think the tall grass could have deflected the shot? Or was it just a miss

5.56 isn't always going to leave much of a blood trail. Could've hit him.

Oh Yea. It was probably a 160 yard shot

Every hog that I have shot squealed like a pig when hit unless you earhole em. That is why I am pretty sure I didn't connect. He didn't look hurt as he was running off.

Frangible bullets will get deflected by brush or limbs at times. I've seen a guy try to shoot through a yucca plant to hit a coyote with a 55grain v-max and it didn't make it through. I don't know if grass would be enough to deflect a bullet but I suppose it's possible.

Depends on what type of grass.

I tried a shot like that on a bobcat with a ballistic tip varmint bullet. 55 gr 223. Shot was probably 50 yds. It jumped and thrashed around. Never found it. I'm positive the bullet fragmented he was hurting but not enough to die anywhere nearby.

If it didn't squeal it was a miss.

Anything the bullet comes in contact with can deflect it,maybe not much but it will. Distance amplifies the effects of the deflection.

                          bullet deflection??

                          Out of your AR?

Did the second, third or fourth shot connect?

Tall thick grass and a light bullet, who knows. I've shot thousands of pigs and they don't always squeal. Pigs are a very tough animal and that's a risky shot. You'll never know what happened, It's a pig shoot another one.

It was a bthp bullet. Blue stem grass. I think the last comment was the best. Its a pig shoot another one.
