    Browning 22 auto

My daughter is trying to make sure there is no ammo left in it. I am not familiar with Brownings and I am not there. Looks like she should just pull back on the extractor underneath and anything in it should eject. Is this right? All she has to do?

Just open it and look up into the chamber.

Always visually check the chamber on a .22 or any gun for that matter. Especially those with a match chamber. .22 bullets have a lubricant on them. Eventually chambers get dirty and sticky. It is not unusual to have an extractor slip over the rim and leave one in the chamber. This is a very common occurrence.

You can see the lack of attention it has had. They found it in an attic closet. She tried the extractor and no shell ejected. I told her to make sure the safety is on and when I get back I will clean it up. It'll be fun to work on.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

They are beautiful little guns. Remember to pull the bolt back a little before taking it down. Otherwise you can bend the extractor.

Make sure the magazine tube is in place, so it will push ammo into the chamber if it has a bullet in it. you can pull the tube to empty the mag, but put it back in and rack the action a couple times to be sure its empty. Of course, then visual chamber check.
