    20" barrels

Are there any cons to a 20" barrel in short action calibers like 243, 7mm08, 260, or 308?

I realize you lose a little speed, but it seems negligible.

They get louder and they lose a tad velocity..thats about it.

I have an 18" on the Grendel and a 20" on the .308. Makes them easier to deal with when the suppressor is on them.

Lose a little MV but you get a more mobile rifle, a lot easier to move around in a blind or to put a can on.

The .308 probably won't lose as much performance as the smaller bores. Since the smaller bores based on the same case will use slower burning powder to achieve their goals. I've always thought a 20 inch on a .308 was enough, but prefer a 22 to 24 on a .243

Noise and muzzle blast are going to bug you more than any loss of velocity...I shoot a 16.5" 308 with a can & life is good.

I shoot a 20" 30-30 and noise and muzzle blast are ok. Should I expect different with 7mm08 or 308?

gonna have a bit more powder but I wouldn't say the report will be much worse....

I disagree. 30-30 out of my savage carbine or win 94 is a peach next to a 20" 308. It's very livable, but easily noticed. Something like 35% higher chamber pressures shows up at the other end too.

                      I have a BLR in .243 and I don't feel like it has a downside for a 20" barrel.

7-08 with 18.5 barrel and .243 with a 20 . They have never failed when I'v done my part. I really like them especially in a blind

Agree. 243 & 260 would benefit from the longer barrel.

                            I think 20" is perfect for .308.

                              I like the 18" .308 bolt guns, I have 2. A custom and a RARP. I shoot both with a suppressor.
