    remington 700 stock trigger??

So I got a 2nd Remington 700 about 2 years ago or so. it is a adl 30-06, it is not the xmark pro trigger. It has a sealed allen wrench trigger.. I want to get a timney trigger. I got this to be my new go to rifle and has done good so far but want to make it the best I can within reason. Anyways the stock trigger feels real heavy and I can shoot it good but it is real hard to squeeze it off without moving a bit. My question is what are most stock Remington 700 non xmark triggers poundage at from stock? I looked everywhere online and don't see much on it. Also when I get my timney what should I set it to for hunting purposes? 3.5 is what I was thinking, but knowing what my stock trigger is set out would help me greatly.

I have my Timneys set a little below 2#, but I love my triggers super light. Helps tremendously with my accuracy, especially on long range shots.

IMO, your Q has 2 answers

      pre-litigation era ... 1965 ~ 1985 and post-litigation era ... 1985 to present

early triggers were set at 2.5 to 3 lbs and easily adjustable down to 3/4 lb

once the corporate lawyers got involved, REM created the j-lock feature, X-mark triggers, and pull weight from factory went to 7-8 lbs.

depending on the age of your rifle (Serial number) , I'd seriously consider having a custom trigger job done on the stock trigger for $60-75

Midway USA is running a special on Timneys for Rem 700's right now. $119 I think. In my humble opinion I'd buy it and not look back. Believe they come out of the box at 3 lbs.

Appreciate that info Cajun that's what I was looking for! Think I'll just get Tunney for a little extra so I can just put it in and it can be adjusted if need be.

Btw I got my rifle about 3 years ago so it is newer.

If you're replacing triggers and can swing the money, get a Jewel instead of a Timney. Timneys are good, but Jewels are better.

Don't rule out the Shilen. IMHO it falls between the Timney and Jewell. It can be tuned to have a little less creep than the Timney and still maintain a functioning Safety. Anything is an improvement over the x-mark, that's for sure.
