    Custom Set Scope?

I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day about getting a new scope for one of his rifles. During the conversation he tells me on his last scope he had it custom set. I have never heard of having a scope custom set so I asked him what it consisted of and he had no idea that's just what the guy told him. So has anyone here heard of this and if so what is involved in custom setting a scope?

Custom knobs maybe? Some sort of dial and shoot system?

I'm assuming custom knobs that are made for that specific rifle and load

^^ this would be my guess. Ordered custom turrets specific to average elevation, temp, etc for a specific load out of a specific rifle.

You can have your scope rings lapped in to grip the scope absolutely true and reduce if not eliminate tube distortion which in theory can effect accuracy. That is the only custom work I am familiar with. Most quality scopes now days you can zero the turrets.

              Leupold CDS
              Kenton Industries
              Nikon SpotOn

Lots of ways to get custom turrets

Most likely he is referring to bedding of the scope base.

Custom turrets is probably what he's referring to but it's possible to have a custom reticle etched with whatever reference marks you want. So, if you have a specific load for a specific rifle you could have a reticle etched to work for those specific holdovers. That's pretty overboard, though.
