    AR15 sighting options

Thinking about an ar15. Like the adjustable stock so my kids can shoot it. 100yds or less. What would yall use for the kids that would be easy for them to shoot? 300blk out or .223?

    .223 would work fine.

Either would work. 223 /.556 would be cheaper for ammo.

556 unless you plan to buy a suppressor, then 300 blk

Sights depend what you want to do with it

I would get whatever 2-7 or 3-9 scope is in your budget. I like red dot sights but for plinking around but when I'm hunting I like to have a little more zoom. When I first bought my AR I put a 1-4 on it and quickly found myelf wishing for more magnification

Thx. Just thinking something other than scope might be easier to learn on...not sure.

                  I was thinking 5.56/.223.

Really it comes down to personal preference

Vortex strike eagle, very clear glass. Nice reticle. And there is a sponsor on here that sells them.

Eotech 512 (used about 300-350). Burris 3x multiplier can be added later with a flip to side mount (about 200-250 new). Great for kids because they don't struggle with proper head placement like on a traditional scope, good out to 100 yds like an iron site, the multiplier makes it better but can be added after the fact. Bonus is that you can't do much better for an adult setup (it's what I run on ars/556's mostly). Don't use anything other than eotech or Burris on multiplier. Eye relief and clarity is much worse on other brands. Burris is about 1/2 price of eotech multiplier and I can't tell the difference in optics. Slightly better mount on eotech.

Other route maybe an aim point (350-450 used) or the Burris tac30 or leupold pig Plex ($250-300 with mount). Aimpoint is pretty kid friendly too. Vortex strike fire would be a budget approach (sort of like aimpoint for under $200 new).

Key for kids is something with lots of eye relief and a big "eye box". And simple.

You can spend alot more of course, and a little less. But those are the setups I have found solid, easy to use, and won't give you buyers remorse (like anything site mark).
