      Vertical stringing problem

Sounds like a barrel heating issue. If all "cold bore" rounds are grouping but hot barrel shots are stringing, I'd leave toward heat warping. Hard to believe in a heavy 8" barrel. Noveski might have some insight into it. Give them a call.

My 8.5" 300 BO doesn't have any issues stinging but I rarely shoot more than a few rounds at a time and let cool between shots.

OP: If you do call Noveske, please post their comments - I'd be really curios to hear them. They have terrific customer service, btw!!

I'll bet that you could see evidence of vertical stringing in the initial groups; and by the 3rd shot you're well past "cold bore." He didn't have issues until after the 5th shot. That's more shooting than most people evaluating a load would do. I think Noveske would say 'it's to be expected in groups exceeding 5 shots in a series.

More likely a ammo issue - note the words "cheap Remington ammo" in the original post. Likely a better ammo will produce better results; and I'm pretty sure Noveske would recommend the same. Especially if shot groups are kept to 5 (or less) and then let barrel cool. You just can't shoot and shoot and shoot a 8" barrel and expect not to have issues with 100yd accuracy - those barrels aren't made for that. I wouldn't even expect my bolt guns, with 24" barrels, to produce terrific 10 round groups like they do (3 & 5 shot groups) because of barrel heat. So, asking similar of an 8" barrel is pointless. - it's just not made for that.

My 16" bbl .308 AR doesn't vertical string after shooting 25 rds consecutively about 1 second apart. My .308 20" Remmy bolt gun doesn't vertical string after 10rds. shot <10 seconds apart (but it is a bull bbl). I've never owned a rifle of any type that vertically strung in 5 shots. Never.

My 16" noveske 300BO did same thing when the barrel gets dirty. Just clean it out with bore foam and it'll be right back to zero.

The shorter a barrel is the less it'll whip. Call noveske.

First, thanks for all the replies. I called noveske and they said that while a shorter barrel does heat up faster it shouldn't be throwing shots that fast. They did say however most likely it was ammo related and not heat related. So to try different ammo and if still didn't help to call back and they would take care of me.

Ammo will make a difference w/the depth of the bullet is different from round to round. If you were shooting factory ammo, this shouldn't be an issue, I wouldn't think.

I had a Noveske .300 blkout barrel that I sent back once, and eventually sold, because it shot poor groups. I'm not sold on Noveske at all.
