1911 coming off safety wile in holster

I got this holster https://www.midwayusa.com/product/26...-power-leather right now. I carry my 1911 mostly at my lease. Most of the time when I get home the guns safety is off. All I can think is that the gun is moving around in there and it's coming off. I make sure it's not when I'm am buttoning the strap. Would this be a problem with the holster that maybe a better quality holster would fix? Could my safety lever be too easy to operate? It is a kimber stainless ii. My dad has the same gun and both mine and his have the same tension on the safety lever. I have never carried his kimber in this holster to see if his does it too.

I'm sure it's the holster. I have a 1911 leather holster that the same thing happens. I took a knife to it,where the safety rides...relieved the leather in that area...problem solved'.

Do you have an extended safety? I carried a colt Concealed Carry Officers model for years and never had the safety come off. On both my Kimbers, it will go to fire position within a couple of minutes in a holster. The Kimbers have extended safeties. As you move around, the thumb break strap works the extended safety lever off.

My solution was to go with a holster that doesn't have a thumb break flap.

Can you go more into detail? Did you just shave down the thickness where the safety rides?

It's the factory safety on the kimber stainless

And people say Glocks are dangerous because they have no safety lever........

Yeah, but you have to move the glock trigger 1 1/2" with 8+ lbs force. That Kimber is probably 4 lbs or so, and moves 1/16" or less.

Also, the galco holsters state that it isn't meant to be carried cocked.

I have removed some leather, but it still happens.

My full size series 70 did that until I had a new pin put on it (the spring loaded pin between the safety and the slide release) now no issues.

The reviews on the Midway sight mentions that the strap will not snap without the hammer back. It's not long enough.

Check this galco document from their website. In "carry condition of firearm" paragraph.

CARRY “CONDITION” OF FIREARM Carrying any handgun with a live cartridge in the chamber immediately in front of the firing pin may cause an accidental discharge. Single action revolvers and some semiautomatic pistols should be carried with the hammer or firing pin resting on an empty chamber. All Galco holsters for the 1911 model/style firearm with safety straps and thumbreaks are designed to carry the 1911 in the “hammer down, chamber empty condition”. Galco 1911 holsters that are “open top” (no safety strap and no thumbreak) are designed to carry 1911’s in all safe “conditions of carry” as specified by the firearm manufacturer.

It's the extended safety lever on the Kimbers. Standard levers do not have this issue. The thumbreak strap rides on the safety lever, and small movements cause it to move to fire condition. Relieving some leather from the strap helps, but it still happens. I am looking at mine now, and the spring and détente on the lever is fairly stiff, it takes some effort to move it, so I don't believe a stiffer spring is the answer. If the triggers on 1911's were not so good, it wouldn't be such an issue of the safety being off, but the nice trigger is one of many things that make them so desirable.

That being said, that's why I have went to an open top holster, or I am willing to accept the fact that my safety will be off. Most of the time I carry, I carry a glock 23. either on my belt, or in the console. I am a lot more willing to lose it than one of my Kimbers.
