    Shilo Sharps ?

I love shooting my Green River .54 muzzle-loader.
    I hate cleaning it

Im on the fence about replacing it with a Shiloh Sharps 45-90.

Who owns one, how do they shoot?
    Thanks
    Buff

I have a shilo sharps 45-110. To find loaded cases for them is expensive. Its easy to reload your self just a few extra things. Drop tube made of brass, and a case with a hose to blow through into the chamber to loosen fouling. Or clean between each shot. Wads and a sizing press to name a few. I use norma brass and trim to length. I have not "got into it " as much as I thought I would. And here you can not hunt with one during muzzle loading season, as it loads from the breech and has a case. You will most likely want to pour you own lead bullets also. They shoot great, if you can get the hang of the sights. I use MVA long range tang sight and its different. They are fun and a lot of work. I will find some pics and post. The extra grade woods are worth it if you want order one.

You will most likely want to reload, as loaded shells are hard to find and are expensive. You need a brass drop tube for the powder, I made mine. You want a case with a hose attached to blow moister in to the barrel between shots. Or clean after each shot. A bullet lubeing , sizing press. I use Norma cases and trim to length. Brass pan for your powder scale, although you fill the case and compress. Over powder wads.If you like nice wood it's worth the money to get the upgrade, if you are ordering one. I have not gotten into it as much as I thought I would. It's fun to shoot but more " work" then a muzzle loader.

On one of the Primos elk vids, Wil visits the Sharps factory and also the period appropriate scope factory, both in Montana. He also thumps a big bull at over 200 yards with his Sharps rifle.

I had a C Sharps Arms in 50-90 with double set triggers. Fun to shoot but a pain to keep clean. I never got into it enough to learn my yarddages and drops.

I have a C. Sharps carbine (26" barrel) that is a great gun and a beauty. I cheat and use BP substitute to make cleaning easier, but still make a pretty smoke cloud. If I absolutely don't want to do any tracking, it is my go-to gun. Pull the trigger--legs sticking up in the air. Shoots about a 3" group with commercial cast 350 gr. bullets and a "hunter" style peep.

I had a C. Sharps Quigley 45-70. With all the bells and whistles. I was the second owner. It was made in 1990. The original owner shot it twice. I bought it in 2012 kept it 2 years and shot it 7 times at 100 yards. After 3 adjustment shots I hit a tennis ball size group with the last 4. And I can't wait shoot a lick either!

Fine rifles I messed with them a lot when I worked with Cimmarron gun co. We had those and pedersoli come across. The Shiloh just a fine work of American craftsmanship. I knew many who owned them and I have not ever heard a foul word about them on any aspect.

i've got an 1885 high-wall in 45/70, cast my own bullets for it and only use black powder. Really enjoy shooting it.
Good luck with your rifle-they're works of art.
