Any particular / discernible difference in shotgun shells for sporting clays?

I'm buying some sporting clays ammo online. Looking for something good, but not quite as expensive as the Fiocchi Super Crushers i've bought in the past. I'm looking at Rio TLT2475 or STS28. "TLT" info says they are developed for trap shooting. "STS28" info says they are developed for sporting clays.

Being a novice i have to ask, does it matter? Is one significantly better than the other? Any recommendations? Thanks~

When I was in Sales the company put on shoots and bought a pallet or two of STS every year. Seemed like a good round to me but then they were free and all free ammo is good ammo.

Go to their website and you'll be able to decipher all the "codes" they have to label their various loads. The number following the tlt vs tls etc is indicating what shot load the shell will have (24 for 7/8 oz up to 32 for 1 1/8). I think you also get a higher dram equivalent with the sporting and trap loads but it's been a while since I've looked.

I like the tls3275 but that's what patterns best with my gun, pretty much use it exclusively for all clays games and dove with good results and at $65 a flat it's not cost prohibitive.

Well there is the shot size, weight, and speed. There will also be subtle differences in shot pattern depending on the gun and wadding

Honestly I never could tell the difference in any of them. The only thing I do know is that once I started reloading for skeet/sporting clays I reloaded the STS hulls almost exclusively. I could get 10-15 reloads out of one hull before it had to be discarded. I know that doesn't help you in this situation, just added it in to kind of reinforce the STS's for structural integrity.

If you really want to to get into it you need to get a box of anything you think you may want to shoot and pattern them. Hand a large piece of paper and shoot each shell at a clean piece of paper. Just like rifles, each shotgun likes a differnt shell. I was really surprised by the varience I saw when patterning for 3 gun.

I shoot a lot, 45-50 flats per year. I can see no difference between the "best " or the cheapest.

If you would like to stay with the Fiocchi ammo, Call CNC distribution in Abilene @ (325) 627-4909 and ask for Clayton. He is a good friend of mine and sells and ships large amounts of Fiocchi ammo. I personally like the Shooting Dynamics line. I shoot a 1oz 1200 fps load and it works as well as anything I've tried. I've gone through nearly 100 flats of them in the last year and have had no ammo problems. They also are available in a faster 1 oz load and in 1-1/8 oz. They are significantly cheaper than the crusher line. Tell him David Bishop said to contact him.

Unless you're shooting pretty high scores pretty consistently it would be hard to notice the difference. The thing that will most improve your shooting is a gun that fits you. I score higher with my 16ga than my 12s because it fits me better.

Pattern them. If a $7.00 a box shell patterns good, what's a $14.00 / box shell going to do for you? Other than empty your wallet faster......
