    300 AAC BLK Ammo

I know Barnes 110 TTSX is the preferred round but I am having issues with them in a bolt gun.

Ruger American Ranch is hitting the primers and they aren't firing. Talked to Barnes about it and they are replacing the unfired rounds for free but I have lost some faith in these rounds.

Barnes explained something about the difference in head spacing between an AR style gun and a bolt gun. I don't understand the difference.

So what is the next best option?

Google issues with that Ranch model in that caliber and you aren't the only one. Good on Barnes for helping you out, but, I don't believe all the fault goes on them.

Sounds like the rifle is no good and you ought to sell it to me

Headspacing shouldn't be that big of a deal. The difference between in and out of spec is so small the ammo manufacturer should make sure the round is good for the entire range of headspace. Which I don't feel like looking up but is in the thousandth of an inch.

Whenever I get around a computer I'll look it up. There were a lot of light primer strike cases. Ruger responded back with certain manufacturers were using primers that were "too hard." I think some folks had to send the bolts back to be tweaked. And, the early released ones had the magazine feeding issues.

I would chalk this up as a rifle issue and not an ammo issue. Do you have a picture of one of the rounds that didn't fire. Is the dent in the primer significant?

Sent them all back to Barnes today. Dent is significant.

Talked to Ruger. They said their guns hate the Barnes ammo. Said they have tested it with all ammo and the best has been Gorilla.

                    Now which one to try.

Gun is sighted with 110 GR Barnes so probably stay with same weight.

                    Varmageddon or Hornady V Max?

I've had the same problem with the same rifle! It sits in the safe now & I just shoot my 300blk in my ar platform. I went through 3 boxes of Barnes & they where all failure to fires. When I talked to Barnes they had no idea what the problem was, they was blaming the gun, talked to Ruger & they was blaming the ammo. So now it just sits.

The bolt gun isn't hitting the harder primer hard enough. They are harder due to going in AR platforms with a floating firing pin. Could find a way to get firing pin to push out further or need to use softer primers like CCI. Ones not meant for ARs. Call ruger see if they have a more powerful firing pin spring as well
