    Remington 700 ADL Question

Does these rifles shoot great out the box like the higher end Remington's? I've narrowed my new rifle purchase down to a 270. I'd really like a CDL Stainless model but thinking of the ADL to use this season for deer and then in the off season customizing it.

This rifle is the cats meow in looks.

My old ADL is a tack driver after a trigger job.

I did add a wood stock. Saw them for $329 after $50 rebate at academy today.

I've got a couple CDL's. 257 weatherby and a 264 win mag. Love them. Did a little adjusting on the trigger and they shoot really well. Probably couldn't go wrong getting an adl and doing some work to it either

Drop a Jewell trigger in and shoot lights out.

The ADL is the same barreled action as any other version, with the exception of SS versus non-SS and some finish differences. Other than that, the action and barrel are the same, and supposedly they just grab an action, grab a barrel and screw them together, without regard for what trim level they will get. So, basically, the main difference between an ADL and SPS is bottom metal, and stepping up to the other trim levels just gets you a different stock.

The ADL's have a few issues, but every one I've ever shot was capable of excellent accuracy. Some required a tiny bit of work, some required zero work, and some I just worked on because I wanted to. The two best things to do for them is to replace the stock with laminate or a quality fiberglass stock and replace the x-mark trigger with basically anything available on the aftermarket or even an old style Remington trigger. Then find the load it likes best.

So ALL the 700 actions are the same (I don't mean length, like LA or SA) and any of them are suitable for donation to a custom build? Only difference being the type of steel - blued or stainless?

That is my understanding, so long as we are taking about same production time. Can't really compare an early production model to a new model, but two new models are essentially going to be identical.

I have a Stainless CDL .257 weatherby mag with a timney in it. I love it!

Like Luke stated yes to the best of my knowledge. Until you get into some of the custom shop rifles which have been trued and such, all production line models are the same.

Thanks for confirming for me Mike D. Like I said, I've got three 700's in my safe now, and I've had MANY others over the years and they all shot well. The most accurate rifle I've ever shot started life as an ADL Varmint. It was darn near a one whole gun in its factory Tupperware stock, right out of the box. I've has since had some work done, but retains the same barreled action, and it's now a legitimate one hole rifle using the right handloads, with the right shooter, and taking my time to do it right.
