    Boyd's stock color choice

So I scored on a .243 on the Walmart secret sale

Thinking about dropping it in a Boyd's stock. They color choices are a bit tough to decipher on the internet. They have laminates and hard woods.

    What do you like? Pics?

stocks are a matter of personal choice

some people like traditional wood, some like laminates, others thumbhole patterns or custom hydro dip

I guess I wasn't clear. I am just curious on what has worked for other and what color choices you like. Surely, someone has anecdotal evidence they'd like to share. I'd prefer to hear it from tbh. Maybe you prefer the laminate over the hardwood. Maybe you suggest the laser engraving. Maybe you think the pics on Boyd's don't do the stocks justice.

I've googled quite a bit. This is just one other avenue for research purposes. This is in regards to a Ruger American. It would be nice to class up an economy rifle.

I've had Boyds and Stocky's stocks in the following laminate colors:

Applejack - Target rifle. I wouldn't think of taking it in the woods. Stood out, even on the range. I didn't think I'd like the red at first, but it grew on me.

Pepper - Blends in very well with tree bark on a hunting rifle. To the point you shouldn't lean it up against a tree and walk more than a few steps away. Don't ask me how I know that.

Royal Jacaranda - Good camo, but the reds and oranges stand out a bit more than other camo stocks. Still one of my favorite laminates.

Sky - Squirrel rifle (.22) I wasn't concerned much about camouflaging it, and I just liked the colors. Still do.

Forest - Great camo. Probably one of my favorite laminates, especially if it has a lot of green in it.

One small problem with ordering laminate stocks - you never know what the dominate colors are going to be in a multi-color laminate. If a part of the rifle is wider, the dominate color might be different from other parts of the rifle. Sometimes, the sides won't quite match in color domination. You might have a lot of one color showing on one side of the rifle, and then more of another color on the other side. So make sure you like ALL of the colors in the laminate you pick.

My next one will be a Royal Laminate or a Zombie Hunter Laminate - simply for something different. The Royal would get my wife's attention, as she loves purple, so I'll probably go with the Zombie Hunter green if it's one of my favorite rifles, so she won't take a liking to it.

Wish I had pictures of all my rifles that had laminates. Unfortunately, I've sold off some of the ones I mentioned above (the AppleJack and Forest, as well as the Royal Jacaranda on the far left of the picture below. But this should give you an idea of some of the colors on actual rifles

Left to right - Royal Jacaranda, Pepper, Royal Jacaranda, and Sky. Note the differences in the two Royal Jacaranda stocks. Same colors. Just more grey in the one on the far left due to the shape of the stock / forearm.

              All the best,
              Glenn

I like the pepper color. Perfect for black guns. I have one on my H&R 300 bo and my savage axis.

How do yall feel about the classic vs the prairie hunter? I think i'm partial to the raised cheek weld.

Bought my neighbor's grandson a sky colored stock last year since he's in love with my blue swirly mcmillan.

                        It looks really nice.

I love the nutmeg prairie hunter. And the pepper thumb hole. You can also get an unfinished stock and make it however dark or light you want.

                            Boyd's stock color choice

I have the timber thumbhole on a model 70 and love it. Really added some weight but it cut recoil down significantly and I shoot it much better now. Throw an after market barrel on her and I would have a real shooter.

Been thinking about getting a thumbhole in coyote to drop my Creedmoor into.
