    First full custom rifle.

Well I just jumped in feet first on my first full custom built rifle. It's a 6.5 x 47 Lapua. Just bought a Stolle Atlas Tactical action, Bartlein 3b contour barrel 1:8 twist, Mcmillan HTG Mcswirly stock 50% black 50% orange and HS precision dbm. I already gave my gunsmith the barrel and the action should be at his door this week according to Kelbly's. The stock is going to be the one long lead item. Looks like about 4-5 months out at this time. Still have to get the Jewell trigger but I can pick it up from them directly.
I plan on having Whidden gunworks build a custom set of dies off of a fired case when we get the chance to fire a few.

I'm looking forward to this as I have never owned a full custom. I figured I better get one done now as my gunsmith is getting up in age and I don't know how long he will keep building rifles.

It'll be a while but I'll have pics when it's done.

    Dave

That's awesome! Coincidentally, I just put a down payment on my first ever custom rifle today too, and it's also a 6.5 Lapua lol.. Mine's about 6-7 months out depending on stock and barrel wait..

I ended up with a Bighorn SR2 action, McMillan A-3 Sporter carbon fiber stock, 21" Hawk Hill fluted #2 barrel, and Timney 510 trigger.. Going for a small/light mountain rifle

Looks like we all think alike lol. For now, I am going to use a Nightforce NXS 8x32 that I already have on another rifle. Plan on getting a 5x25 f1 eventually. They're kinda pricey though.

Blake, how do you like the bottom safety vs the standard safety position?

I have 7 of the bottom safety triggers

Most love them, some can't get use to them

To me they just feel perfect since your index finger is already near the trigger guard

Sounds like some nice components for stone rifle.
Why the the 6.5L? In the real world what does it offer over the 260Rem or Creedmore? Lapua does sound cool though.

I have a big horn and a stiller or 2. The stiller are not even in the same class as a big horn IMO. It's like comparing a pinto to a Lamborghini
