I owned the same diamond back a couple years ago. I didn't like how cloudy it was so contacted Vortex and sent it in, they sent me a new scope, just as cloudy as the old scope. I sold it.
I've since used other Vortex scopes, a Viper that was also cloudy with distortion around the edges and one Crossfire that was amazingly clear.
Just my opinion but I don't like them. Any scope that costs more than $150 should be clear without distortion and Vortex appears to me to be a hit or miss gamble.
My only concern with some of the reviews are that some say the eye relief isn't the best, and others say that at high powers, the view can get somewhat fuzzy.
Has anyone had any issues related to that? But overall, it has tons of good reviews.
I have the Diamonback 4-12x40 AO on my .300 WM. For the first and last 45 minutes of shooting light all I can see is orange if I am looking anywhere near sunrise or sunset using higher power. I have to dial it down to about 6x for the orange haze to go away.
I bought a Vortex 2x7 with a PEPR mount at a great price for my 6.8SPC. I think the Nikon scopes I own have better clarity and light gathering ability. I really like Leupold scopes, but I really cannot afford them.

Same here. I have the same scope. Its as clear as my nikons/Leu VX2s but it does have some flare issues. In the evening the sun is about 2-3 o'clock from blind to feeder and it hazes over with sun flare. I havent found a sunshade for it yet, but if i do, id get it. I have other Vortex scopes/binos and like them. Its just an issue ive found and heard from others

If you find a shade that fits on the AO I'd like to know what it is.
Well I have a vortex I picked up from arrowsmith and it's bad ***, shot one so late with it almost got in trouble. And we shoot it out to 400 yards. Now I wouldn't say it's better the leupold I paid 600 for but I think the vortex cost half that. 4x16 hs diamond back is nice and not their best one either. Buying a new one in the next couple of weeks for long range. Check with arrowsmith best deal you can get
Thank you, Rodney! Vortex is good glass and an awesome company that backs up their products.

FYI - sorry, I should have specified my Vortex is a Crossfire II model.
I have used one and personally wouldn't waste my money. You an get a used leupold vx2 for about the same price that will be much better quality and clarity.
Why waste your money on either of those when you could get a Minox that blows those other two out of the water with just as good of a warranty for the same price?
