    S&W model 19 2" or 3"

I need a S&W model 19 or 686 in 2" or 3" it's for my law enforcement job for at the office my 1911 is a bit too big for my comfortable draw behind my desk so I want this one as a backup or primary desk gun.

The S&W Model 19 and 66 (same as the Model 19, but made in stainless steel) came standard with either 2.5, 4.0, or 6.0 inch long barrels. There were some 3.0 inch long barreled ones, but they are hard to come by and very pricey. The 686 is a larger framed revolver (L-frame, vs. K-frame), and has the advantage of having either a 6, or 7 round cylinder, and can be had in 2.5 or 3.0 inch long barrels:

The Model 19 is no longer being made, and the new Model 66 is only offered with a 4.0 inch long barrel. Older Model 19/66 can be found for sale, and many prefer the older models over the modern versions. I have a 2.5 inch barreled Model 66 and it is an excellent handgun, but it is big. I also own a 3.0 inch long barreled Model 65 (fixed sight, .357 Magnum revolver) and I think it is actually better balanced and handling than the Model 66. Additionally, with a 3.0 inch long barrel, you get a full length extractor rod. If it were me, I'd try to find a 3.0 inch barreled Model 13 or Model 65. If neither of those are available, then I'd go with a Model 686.

      Good luck,

      Dave
