    Another SBR question

I'm going to get another can on order for the 5.56 SBR I'm building

    1. Order a 7.62 can so I can use it on other rifles?
    2. Order a 5.56 can because I already have a 7.62 on order
    3. If 5.56, which can for a 10.5" barrel

I've owned a 7.62 can for a couple of years now and use it on my 308's and 5.56's. It's awesome, but pretty heavy and I also hated switching it back and forth when I'd take both calibers to the range on the same trip.
I just ordered a dedicated 5.56 can and went with the Specwar K. Research it, it's a sweet little can.

Oh, yes I will be using it down to a 10.5" Noveske upper I have.
Should not have any issues at all as it is rated down to that.

You limit yourself if you get a 5.56 can. These days there really isn't a good argument for getting a 5.56 only supp. The reason .30 cans are so popular is that you can run them on 5.56 and get just as good sound suppression (within a few db) of a dedicated 5.56 can.

That USED to be my mentality as well, but I guess it all depends on how many hosts you have.
I have 4+ 30cal hosts for use with my 7.62 can, but I have 7+ hosts in 5.56.
If you are only getting one rifle can then .30 cal all the way, but if are able to get multiple cans and you have alot of 5.56's (especially shorties)..there's nothing like a short, light can on them...they will spoil you.

I can definitely see that and you are absolutely right, it does really depends on your hosts.

My thought was my 5 30 cal (1 - 762SD & 4 - SDN-6's) cans are going to be shot on 5.56 SBR's, a 5.56 carbine, 300 blk out SBR's, more than likely a 7.62 x39 AR (haven't decided on what I'm building yet), 6.5 Grendel AR's, a 308 AR, a 300 blk out bolt gun and a couple 308 bolt guns. I wanted all 30 cal cans so I can just grab and go and if I end up with a new rifle/caliber, my suppressors will be able to be used on it. I will eventually get another 300 WM or WSM, but it's not needed at the moment and I don't plan on suppressing something that big. I also didn't want to have to remember which can was sighted in with which rifle, etc. Now there may be some extremely minor poi shifts with the SDN-6's, but hopegully nothing to worry about... I will still check it though. Everyone's thought process is more than likely going to be different, but these were my needs/wants for my platforms.

                  Yep:

I have heard so many people say "I wish someone had talked me out of a 5.56". If you ever make a shift towards .300BO or x39 your 5.56 can is not going to apply. Or you have a kid that starts hunting and you want him shooting a .243 suppressed and you want to hunt with a 308.

I have a can in process that is rated for .338LM and I don't have anything close.

                  Different opinions for different folks.

I agree with what has been said about getting a .30 can first. They are usally within 1 dB of a dedicated .223 can, although many are heavier and larger. Personally, I think the best setup would be a can rated for .300 WM, and then an 8.5" .300 blackout with a 9mm pistol can shooting subsonics if light weight and stealth are your primary objectives.
