    Side charging AR?

I've seen a few of these lately on the WWW. What's up with that? Are they new? Any advantages over rear/normal charging?

A buddy of mine has a Yankee Hill 6.5 Grendel with a side charging handle. He's had his for a year or maybe a little longer. They look pretty cool but other than that I don't know if they have any advantage over the others. Other than maybe not having to worry about it not sticking out far enough to grab if you have optics on the rifle. But that's just my guess. There could be some other advantages I'm not aware of.

I had a 2vetsarms side charging AR. If you have a scope that sits further back, it makes a big difference. Other than that, it's for looks. I'd say in a shtf situation, it's no bueno. The bolt is tapped where you screw in the charging handle, so you lose the "handle", you have an inoperable gun, if you reset your bad lever. I had problems with my upper, sent it back and 2vets sent me a new one. After that, it was a sweet shooting gun, but I ended up trading it off. I like my "typical" AR's.

I have a 2 vets too, was looking at an LWRC but didnt have the coin.

I like the side charging better with a scope, just personal preference. Charging handle is on the left hand side in the pic.

Sanders, my gun is short cycling and I cant get 2 vets to answer my calls, emails, or texts. I bought it from used from a guy on here. Can you say what your issue was?
