    Barrel twist .308 question.

I am trying to figure out a good subsonic load for my suppressed Remington 700 R18. I am trying to figure out what the barrel twist is. I would think it would be 1/10 but not sure. Any ideas on how I can tell for sure?

Take a cleaning rod and tight jag and patch. Push the rod in until you are up in the bore. Mark your rod at a designated point on your action. Mark the end of the rod with a spot you can watch. Push rod until it makes a full resolution. Mark the rod again at the same point on your action. Measure between the two marks and that will tell you your twist rate.

Most Remington's are 1/12 but it may be 1/10. The cleaning rod will tell you. 10.2gr-10.3gr trail boss 175gr matchking boom subsonic.

Call johns guns maybe? Might be a 1/8 to run the heavy stuff. That's what I'd expect to be done but who knows. Nice rig.

Most Remington 700s in .308 are 1:12". The 5R is a 1:11.25". That one looks to have been rebarreled. Call the gunsmith who did it. If that fails use the cleaning rod method. If it was rebarreled to shoot subsonic or heavier bullets, then it's likely faster.

The "R18" might mean it's a right-handed 1:8" barrel, but I've never seen barrel twist marked like that.
