It only did it the first time I shot it. I quit shooting it after a few of magazines and didn't pick one up until a couple of months later. Since then it has not done it. Each time he and I shoot together we trade pistols just to try something else and it is fine.

TVC is dead on as usual. I will say that I loved the grip and trigger. Maybe it's because I'm accustomed to a Glock in .40 cal and this was a 9mm, but the HK felt like it was on ball belongs to me, very smooth, no recoil, like a finely tuned, well oiled machine. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if they weren't so much more expensive.....but that price for the black one isn't as bad as I remember them being.
ETA: Those little extra cocking serrations that stick out on the training edge of the slide are kinda strange. I'm not sure how I feel about them but at least they weren't too distracting.

The trigger has a bit more crisp feel in that it seems more like the "1911 trigger" that is so often talked about. My friend shoots it mainly for the trigger but also the grip.
It has the European magazine release along the side of the trigger guard which is different. Some people like that better for easier access, especially for people that have a hard time with the thumb release distance on standard handguns. Like anything else, it takes muscle memory to get used to it.
The factory grips have more options on fitting it to the hand in that not only the backstrap but the side panels also adjust. Most modern striker fired polymer handguns have some kind of grip size adjustment but most are just larger and smaller backstraps where the VP has side panels separately.
Shooting it to me is no different than the Glock or M&P with the only real difference in any of them is the grip shape and trigger pull. I like my M&P grip more but I would have no issues using the VP9 as a duty weapon. I have never seen an kind of malfunction in one and it did what it was supposed to do. The grip and trigger are the only real difference between the VP9 and the other striker fired handguns. It you like those, it is a great handgun up there with any on the market with maybe a bit more snappy or crisp trigger than its other striker fired rivals.
Since my friend broke the ice with that handgun in our department (127 officers), I think 6 other officers have gone to it. Considering that most have been shooting Glock, xD and M&P for years with no issues, I think that is a fairly impressive change.
My opinion is that it is a great shooter. Unless you just don't like the grip, I think you would be very pleased with one.
It is equal to the Glock and M&P and clearly outshines the xD series.
