Question on suppressor under hand guard

When I made my suppressor choice, a Specwar 762, I didn't understand or really care at the time the potential limitations of its mounting system compared to the newer technology suppressors. I really just wanted a basic suppressor that did the best at sound reduction. Weight, modularity, etc weren't factors.

It's still in review at ATF, but I am working on assembling parts for my 300blk SBR build. I'm planning on a 8-9" barrel, and I would either like the base of the suppressor flush with the end of the hand guard or underneath it.

With the Specwar there is a locking ring that seemingly prevents it from being mounted underneath the hand guard. But, what if I tighten the locking ring on the muzzle brake and then screw the brake onto the barrel like a direct threats?

Or can y'all help me with what the right length of handguns Rd should be to have the suppressor flush with the end of the hand guard?

Although the tucked suppressors look good not only does it limit your choices due to various attachment systems but it also gets the hand guard very hot and you certainly don't want to be holding onto that hand guard if there's a catastrophic failure of the suppressor.

      This^^

I'll just add: it makes an adjustable gas block very hard, if not impossible, to adjust. I'm a big fan of adjustable blocks. Also, you can't run a suppressor cover, which allows you to handle a hot suppressor and remove it. That's a pretty hand thing to be able to do.

Sounds great and looks great but it's not terribly practical once you really get down to it. I think most of us dreamed of this early on but once you've run one on an AR for a while most people will rethink the wisdom of the idea.

Ok, and the rest of the inter webs appears to recommend the same thing y'all have. So, what handguard length should I get for an 8.5" barrel so the spec war 762 is flush with the end of it?

I have a buddy that just have the muzzle adapter in the suppressor at all times and just screws it on different guns as a direct thread. No problems.

Your only option is going to be a carbine hand guard which is usually around 7".

This is my 8" Noveske with a 7" hand guard on it.

That won't work on all suppressors. Some have a catch that has to be manipulated to remove the suppressor.

Question on suppressor under hand guard

Get a hand guard that's 1"-1.5" shorter than the barrel length. If you go with a handguard that's 1.5" shorter than you barrel you'll have the room you need for SURE. If you go with a 7.5" handguard (1" shorter than your barrel) you'll get a more seamless look, like Mike D's, but you COULD run into a problem where your can doesn't have enough room - this is unlikely but it CAN happen.

                Here's what a 11" NSR handguard looks like on a 12.5" barrel:

Thanks for the suggestions. Mike I like how yours looks, so I'll keep the suppressor forward of the guard.

That is my thought. That way if you had a catastrophic failure your fingers won't be involved

I can't afford to lose fingers. I suspect the middle one is going to get some high mileage after the election

I am swimming against the current on this one but I don't have a problem with the suppressor under the handguard.

Common sense tells me not to place my hand in front of the actual muzzle of the barrel regardless of its length.

In my case I have a dedicated suppressor on my 300 BO SBR, it stays on it. Have a Magpul AFG attached to the handguard so it places my hand behind the muzzle. I feel its a nice clean package but that's just me.

Never had a problem with my can tucked. I don't shoot full auto and don't own a can that was in the video. I've never had the rail get hot but I'm not doing mag dumps either.

I'll be tucking the can on my 9mm build as well

I just got a rail one size longer than I needed, and then had it professionally trimmed so that the can butts up against it when all the way seated. Got the tucked look without the heat and its easy to remove. I wouldnt trust hand tightening with a can, it could be an expensive oops if it came off at the wrong time
