Couldn't find this in a search

I'm planning on buying an AR.
I know I want a 5.56 with full auto BCG ideally a 1:7 twist. I want to be able to shoot heavier bullets, 65+grains.
Buddy says it's only a 200 yd gun..... I'm not buying it. We shoot 500 yds in MCRD.

I'd like to get a 300 Blackout upper. I can use same BCG And clips [emoji33] not sure of twist rates. Same buddy says it's a 250 yd caliber.

    So here's my intended use
    Deer, hogs, turkey & plinking.
Hunting out of a blind under 300 yds.

I plan in getting a silencer for the 300, can I use it on 5.56?

    18 or 20" barell?

    Get 5.56 than the .300?

You want the 1/7 twist for the 5.56 & the full auto bcg.

Don't be pinche & get a complete upper for the 300BO as well & don't share the bolt. You can share the same mags but I would get different colors for ID reasons & Pmags are cheap.

Get a .30cal can & use it on both...I would go no longer that 12.5" for both. I don't like long AR barrels with suppressors in your application. 300 would be max for sure.

      Isn't 12.5" an SBR?

Yes it is. Unless you get a pistol

You can shoot either of those calibers a lot further that 2-300 yards.

For hunting applications, he is right.

As far as hunting, at 300 yds your 5.56 will be pushing ~500 ft/lb of energy. That's not enough.

The blackout will be much worse. It's not designed to be a hunting round, but it'll do the job fine to 100 yds as long as you shoot supersonic.

If you want to hunt at those distances in the AR go with Grendel. It is designed for what you describe. Personally I like the 6.8 SPC because it performs better in short barrels, but long range is the tradeoff.

Yes, but you only need to SBR the one lower & if you are going to get a can, then spend the little extra to make it useable. I have killed deer at over 200yds with my 12.5sbr & the 110gr barnes with ease. 300 is going to pushing it.

Varmints at that distance are not a problem.

                223/5.56 69gr bullet at 300 yards has roughly 600ftlb @ 2000 FPS
                300Blk 110gr bullet at 300 yards has roughly 675ftlb @ 1650 FPS
Depending on who you read 700-1000ftlb of energy is needed to kill a hog/deer.
In your scenario neither one of these bullets will achieve what you want.

As a long time owner of the 300 I personally wouldn't shoot an animal over 150 yards depending on what bullet I am using. To be honest most of my hog kills have been under 75 yards longest 90 yards.

More importantly you need to look into bullet companies minimal FPS and FTLB for bullet to function properly.

You may want to save the money and just buy a AR10 in .308 if you HONESTLY believe you will be shooting hogs/deer out to 300 yards.

                  I have a Savage 12VLP chambered 300WSM [emoji3]
I got it for long range shooting.

It's a tad heavy and long to spot and stalk with [emoji20]
Bullets are $1.90 each, can be pricey to target shoot with.

I don't want my hunting buddies to feel bad cause I have a bigger gun than them [emoji851]

Ended up with a 5.56 with 1:9 and semi auto BCG.
                        Shoulda got the AR10.

Price was right and I had cash money

dont sweat it. im sure its a fine rifle. try out those heavier bullets too. you never know your gun my love them. And full auto BCGs are cool in select fire guns. Otherwise your just adding mass to the carrier it does not need. Nothing against them at all, but i have nothing against semi auto BCGs

                          congrats and happy hunting

You may get lucky with the heavier bullets and 1:9 and then again you might not. AR10s suck for hunting except sitting in a blind.
