    Too close?

There is about a millimeter between the bell and rifle, same for the body of scope/rifle at mount, and three or so between hammer and scope.

I also want to brag for a second...I won the scope in a raffle . A big shout out to Cameralandny.com for the awesome hookup!

Should be fine. I've had scopes mounted closer than 1mm from the barrel to get the eye relief where I wanted it.

If you slip a dollar bill between them it should be fine

        Pic...

I can squeeze the rifle and scope together enough to touch.

Not a good idea to be pushing on your scope like that. It might be too close if a very light press creates the contact. What caliber is it? If it's a stout caliber, like .300WM you may want a little more room. If it's a .223 (light recoil) you should be ok.

With that close a setup you also will not be able to use a scope cover. I like low sitting scopes but I like to, at least, be able to use a neoprene cover.

I think it all depends on your intended use, your preferences and the particular rifle.

Nothing too bad...7mm-08 shooting reduced recoil rounds.

Closer the better. Looks like nice set up. But you need to poney up a little more cash for rings. Stay away from anything with a thumb screw. You well spend more money in Ammo keeping the thing sighted in. You can get Burris zee rings for less than 30 bucks. I would highly consider it.

Also try dmz game reapers. Bout 60 at least they used to be.

Shoot, I didn't look close enough to see that they were thumbscrew 'rings' - and I hate to even call those "rings!" Lol!

A scope mounted just above the barrel is usually preferred for bolt rifles but if you're going to go that close, make sure they're nice stout rings. Quality rings are just about as important as the scope they are holding.

Too close. Scope cover is reason enough to get taller, better rings

Is that a 50 mm scope?

The rings are a pair I happened to have laying around the safe. Last time I used them, they worked just fine. I might upgrade, but meh, we'll see.

I use a rifle cover, so couldn't care less about a scope cover or lens caps.

                        Its a 42MM.
