    New Buckmark - first impression

    I initially set out to get a Ruger Mark III as a suppressor host, but the only models that Cabelas carries are the 22/45 (had $250 in points). Don't like the 22/45, just a personal thing. Really don't like the Lite models, though I'll get back to those in a second.

    Anyways, Browning released a Field Target Buckmark model at the SHOT show that is suppressor ready. I really liked the look of this model, and I really enjoyed the last Buckmark I had. Cabelas carries it too, so today we ventured down to the new store in League City. The LC store is not that big a store, but I suppose it has all the same stuff. Definitely more compact than even the ones in Buda and Gonzales.

    So, I used up my Cabelas points and plunked down a few extra dineros on the last suppressor ready Field Target model they had. First off, I like that it came in a soft case. Nifty. Just one mag, but that's all my old Buckmark had, no big deal. Same ol' comfortable trigger, and same ol' adjustable sights I remember. The laminate grip panels are a nice addition over the old rubber ones. So, pretty much what I expected from it. Except one thing. Weight.

    It's a good thing. The full top rail adds a few more ounces and slightly shifts the balance to the muzzle, which should be nice for accuracy shooting. It definitely feels a little hefty for a 22, but I suspect this thing will be a real nice shooter, especially after I drop a Volquartsen target hammer in it.

    Ok, the negatives. I think the 5.5" barrel may mean that not every single load I fire from it will be subsonic. Not too big a deal, because I'll enjoy the other features of the pistol for accuracy shooting and hunting. I can always get some heavier 40gr LRN and subs for it. And back to the weight. Add a suppressor on the end of this thing, and I think it will be pretty heavy. Now I see why the 22/45 Lite models are popular. Still like the Buckmark better. It'll still be fun for suppressed shooting, but perhaps not something I'll hike with. We have a Single Six Hunter with a scope that is fun to shoot at the bench, so it'll be fun to see how the Buckmark compares.

    Overall, I'm happy with it, even with the obvious compromises. I'll post a before and after with the Volquartsen hammer, and of course a post when the can comes in. Getting a Spectre II

    Very nice! I love buckmarks, they are great pistols. I have three and they are all very accurate and a blast to plink around with.

          Just got back from Thunder Gun Range, and this thing is sweet to shoot. The extra weight of the gun makes it nearly dead in the hand with almost no noticeable recoil. I imagine when the suppressor goes on it, it'll be completely steady.

              Shot it again today. This gun has a lot of potential. After getting settled in, I was puttting all 10rds into a quarter sized hole at 15yds shooting offhand. With a rest and decent ammo, I'm confident this thing will do that a 25yds easy. I don't think the Volquartsen hammer will be necessary, but I'll still give it a try after Ive mastered it as is.

              What about a red dot? Is there a 1 MOA model or something that will offer greater precision than the target sights? Or is a red dot more for better speed while maintaining decent accuracy?

              With the suppressor, and a red dot if I ever get one, this thing will weigh a ton. I see the appeal of the Ruger Lite 22/45's...but I still like this Buckmark better!

              =====

              Also popped a box through a Gen3 G19 I picked up. If ever two new guns fit like old gloves, it'd be these two.

                  I've got a Bushnell trs25 I'm not using if you want to give it a try...I think its 3 or 4 MOA but at pistol ranges I'm more consistent, and precise, with a dot sight or even a 1x scope than traditional front and rear sights. Probably my 50 year old eyes...

                  You are welcome to give it a try and see if dot sights are something you like. It works well on a handgun...I had one on a 357 mag before swapping it out for a 1x traditional scope.

                      That's why I'm glad my indoor range has 2" steel plate as dividers.

                        I know! I looked on the next lane over and didn't see any holes, but I was glad there was only one CHL student shooting besides me. Don't think I'll go there if it looks crowded.
