    Subsonic / Suppressor Help?? .223/5.56

So...I bought a suppressor (YHM-3300 SS QD Phantom) for my "CMMG M4LE Multi" AR in March, and kinda rushed so that I could get in before the new requirements for a trust. I would have gotten a .300 now that I have researched more, but alas I still have the .223/5.56 coming in.

I am deployed and can't see the gun right now, but I believe it is 1:9 twist. Hard to find info on it, since CMMG says its a show gun that probably wasn't ever up for mass production.

Anyways, I am mainly going to be shooting regular rounds through, but I want to play around with a couple subsonic, just to hear it...as for the questions.

1- With a subsonic round and a 1:9 Twist...a 55gr bullet should be fine right? Without those nasty baffle strikes right?

2- With a regular round, anything up to like 70gr should be ok to send through the suppressor?

Should I just always check for key holing on paper for every type of round I ever try? Or is there some certain types that are always just ok without having to mess with?

Sorry for the n00b questions, but so much conflicting information online and don't want to ruin my suppressor when it gets here.

1:9 should stabilise anything. Up to 77. But I would check for keyholing before sending it through a can when running anything over 75gr.

Subsonic 55gr. Good question. I would expect it to stabilize. But check

      Is subsonic 5.56 readily available?

I would definitely check your loads without a suppressor. A 1:9" may not handle 75-77 grn rounds. I had a 20" heavy barrel Remington with a 1:9" that would shoot 69 grains like a dream, but wouldn't stabilize a 75. Would keyhole like crazy.

A subsonic 5.56/.223 round isn't going to do ****. You're taking a round that was designed to be fired at nearly 3,000 FPS and trying to reduce it's velocity by 2/3rds. It's just not going to work well at all.

              You need to either

-shoot super sonic 5.56, which will probably still be hearing safe.
-get a 30 cal suppressor and shoot .300blk.

You can probably still cancel that stamp and get another can before the July 13th deadline. You may have to pay a re-stocking fee, but it's better than being married to a can that won't suit your needs. Yeah you're adding a few months to your wait, but in the long run it's for the best.

I've seen a couple sites with some. CTD has some BELK...I'll probably only ever buy one box.

He's trying to tell me that I am shooting something that hits like a .22....which I don't really give a ****...like I said this is just to have some fun for like 20 rounds total. Ever.

Got ya! Yeah I probably should do all that for about 20 rounds, that I want to send into a dr. pepper can. I don't care if it hit it like a BB gun. Like I said at the beginning I am just doing it to hear it and see how quiet, my certain gun, that I have, can get. Every thread I found online has the same kind of people coming into those threads and fighting about this. It's why its so hard to find actual information on what I need. Thanks though.

The key is check your loads. Different barrels do different things

300Blk is the answer. It was designed to be subsonic and operate the action. There are now subsonic weight hunting projectiles that expand at subsonic velocities.

I agree with the recommendation of using a 300Blk for the subsonic environment

As far as suppressors. Why not buy a second 30 can

I think that you are playing with fire (literally) trying to shoot subsonic .223. Case volume is a real problem there, just as it is with any generally high velocity caliber. You need a low volume of propellant, and that can lead to inconsistent ignition, depending on the proximity of the charge to the primer. Some people counter this with fillers, but it takes considerable experimentation and trouble to get a consistent load. I agree with the above poster. Either be content with the sonic crack of the regular velocity .223 loads at still hearing safe levels, or get a .300 blackout.
