    280 Remington question

Anyone reload using Varget powder? I am going to be loading up some 140gr accubonds to see how they shoot in front of some varget, mainly because its the only powder I have on hand right now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated also. Gun will primarily be used for hogs and varmints with an occasional deer thrown in the mix.

IMR OR H4350 shot well out of mine with a 130 Sierra HP

IMR 4831 or RL 19 is what I load. Never tried Varget.

I run imr 4350 and 140 grain Berger VLD in mine with spectacular results.

Varget is to fast a burn.

H4350, H4831 or the IMR equal of either is where I would start. All 4 of these are easier to find than Varget also

4350 seems to be the goto powder. I will pick some up and work from there to see how the rifle likes it.

I prefer the slower 4831 / N160 / N165 rate with a more full case but every gun is different...4350 is a good choice

I would call H4831 my go too but with suggestion from Artos I tried N165 in my 280AI and it blew away any other powder I tried in accuracy, velocity deviation, and velocity

Yes, Varget will be too fast. Something well-suited for the .30-06 will be a good choice for the .280. Friend of mine had great results with RL19 but the other suggestions you've gotten are good as well.

IMR 4350 works great in mine using 140 gr Noslers. Tried 4831 and ît seemed too slow with more powder burning outside the muzzle. Now with a 26" barrel 4831 would be great, but so would 4350.

                        PYBUCK,
Just question, how do you know powder wasn't consumed in the barrel.

IMR4350 behind 140gr Nosler Solid base was by far the best shooting I found for my .280Now that Nosler no longer makes the 140gr. solid base, I shoot the ballistic tip. They don't seem to shoot as well for me.

Interesting. Can you share your results?
                              Avg velocity?
                              Velocity deviation?
                              Avg group?
