    What .308 Ammo

I've got a new rifle(.308) and am looking for off the shelf ammo.I know every gun likes something different,I'm just looking for a starting point so I don't have to buy 20 different boxes of ammo to get the best results. This is a hunting rifle.

    Thanks,DJ

Target/paper punching. Federal Gold Medal Match 168's or 175's

Hunting I've had good luck with Hornady, Federal, Remington, and Nosler, in that order, out of the box. Depends on what type of bullet you want. Poly tip, soft point, ect. This list isn't my preference just what ammo type grouped best out of my rifle.

For target shooting Federal gold medal match as was stated earlier.

For hunting, anything with a Barnes solid copper X Bullet.

What's your rate of twist / grain preference?

If killing animals is your sole quest, regular ole Remington corelokt 150's have worked for me.

One thing is for sure, there are a LOT of different brands/weights/bullets out there today to choose from. Put any of them (even FMJ's) in the right spot and the animal will die, the wrong spot and your in for a long track.

I've had very good luck with 165gr GMX Superperformance Hornady ammo. Great for hunting and very consistent at the range. Good luck sir

I shoot rem corelokt 150s. Have tried others with not any noticable difference so I stay with the coelokt now due to I have had great success taking down game with every shot, they are cheap, and are easy to find especially if your away from home and need some extra ammo.

For a hunting round the corelokts are a good place to start. They shoot sub 2" in both my 308's and their track record on game is proven. As others have mentioned they are cheap and you can buy them anywhere.

Honestly, probably can't go wrong with any name brand factory-ammo and unless your are looking for extreme accuracy or need a "tougher" bullet any of the big name lead-copper bullets will work and they are usually less expensive.

I'm pretty sure I still have a bunch of .308 hunting ammo I would be willing to sell. PM me with a cell number if you're interested and I'll send you a pic of what I have.

All the stats you could ever want to know are out there on the federal match grade, due to several years as the premier law enforcement round. But need more info on what you are trying to do and shoot
