I thought all standard velocity ammo was faster than the speed of sound.
After doing a check of their web site CCI quiet rounds are pellet gun quiet without a suppressor.
Great. I have a bunch of both and a .22 suppressor on the way.
Good buy!
I have some .22 Remington and they state subsonic right on the box. I need to check the fps on my other .22 Remington boxes and see what the fps is on them. I may own more subsonic ammo than I thought.Last edited by M.E.B.; 04-17-2016, 01:16 PM.

At my elevation, and standard pressure/temp, the barrier is right around 1108 fps.
I have some Remington Target that is rated at 1150 fps, 95% of it is supersonic out of my rifle. Every now and then one will go subsonic.
CCI SV is 1070 fps, very quiet in my 10/22 through my Spectre. It never goes super. Lots of 22 shooters who want to stay subsonic love the CCI SV because not only is it subsonic, but it is very accurate and consistent ammunition without paying a hefty price. It is my standard for testing accuracy in a 22 without going to match ammo. And at today's prices and availability, 8 cents per round is a heck of a deal on SV. I picked up more on Saturday, basically buying every bit of it they will let me buy.
I have some of the Quiet too, but it has 1/3 less velocity with the same bullet. Different POI in my rifle. But, it does have its uses.
If a 22 is rated high velocity, generally it will be in the 1200-1300 range on a 40 grain bullet. Some are much faster because they use lighter bullets, like a 36 or 32. Most standard velocity stuff is slower, but you have to read the label. And not all advertise the velocity on the box.
There is quite a bit of ammunition out there that is subsonic that isn't advertised that way. Most match ammo is subsonic as well. Basically on match ammo they want it as fast as possible (less wind drift) without passing through the transonic barrier (bullet instability). Therefore most of the match ammo you see will be between 1025 and 1075 fps.Last edited by Jethro; 04-18-2016, 06:55 AM.
