I've looked at it a very little... Don't know the range but probably better off with 300 for straight long range. Isn't the beowolf just a way to get a big caliber in an AR? You could also check 6.5 Grendel if you want an AR.
Then again I could be completely off base! Either way good luck!

I have only shot one a handful of times so take this for what it's worth....but I would say 100-150.....200 absolute max. Great for close to mid range, and it hits hard being larger diameter and heavier bullet but it will be going much slower then your 300 WSM.
I saw the short to mid and that's what made me scratch my head.
Kill deer and pigs
I don't know what they consider short to mid.. I'd guess 250 or so yards? If you haven't read it this article is a decent overview. If pinpoint accuracy isn't required it could definetly be a fun gun. I'm sure it would be brutal against hogs at short range, but might be slight overkill for deer! Could consider getting a couple uppers, using the 50 to kill hogs, and maybe a 300 blk,. 223,or 6.5 Grendel for popping deer.
According to handloads.com, if you sight in 2" high at 100 yards, you'll be 6" low at 200 and 18" low at 250. It still has 1000 foot pounds of energy at 250.
I thought you were getting into the long range game? If your wanting to do that then no way your going to want that fat slow .50 beowulf over the .300 wsm. It may be a .50 but nowhere close to the same family as the BMG.

I'm wanting to, just having a hard time finding a mentor.
That's nothing new to me though

Google and is your friend bud, I am just getting into the game as well even got the same rifle as you and all the info I am gathering has been from here and the googles. No need for a mentor these days with the amount of info that is available online. And then just get out and shoot. Have been learning a ton just getting out and plinking on the range or shooting at varmints as far as learning how to dope properly how to run a ballistics calculator reading wind etc...
To learn with you may want to start out with something small to get increased amounts of trigger time and cheaper, I have a .204 that is currently my practice gun that I am using to learn while I am gathering parts for my .300 up.
