    Lee progressive loader question

Does anyone have one of these? For the price they seem great, but it's a Lee setup. I know this isn't a Dillon or Hornady and "you get what you pay for" but it seems that for my purposes, it should work just fine for the 357/38/40 I'll be loading....

If anyone has any first hand knowledge I'd appreciate it. Midway has decent reviews and YouTube has some cool videos. I get there may be some fine tuning at first but that's fine.

I had one.. For two days. Then it got sent back to midway. Either buy the Lee turret press, or a Dillon/Hornady.

I have the Pro 1000 and load strictly .45 ACP with it. I have a shell plate for .357 Sig, but haven't tried them yet. I had some issues with it not indexing correctly and finally sent it to Lee. They fixed the issue and sent it back without charging me anything. Occasionally it will turn a primer upside down, so I'm trying to figure that one out now. I'm ok with it.

For those calibers get a Dillon square deal B. Bought mine set up for .44 mag on ebay for $260 bucks or so. If anything is wrong with it, Dillon wil give you the parts for it. It only loads straight wall pistol bullets, and must use Dillon dies.

this appears to be the only one up for auction right now. If looking at new, look at brian enos site.

I've loaded thousands upon thousands of 45 and 9MM on two separate Pro1000's. If you have no patience to tinker, get something else. The primer feed on the 9MM is infuriating at times. When they work, I can run 400+ an hour easily. There are several tricks that really help, but if you don't pay 100% attention, things will go sideways in a hurry.

Hornady AP is the only way to go IMO! I have loaded thousands of rounds over the last 15 years on my Hornady AP with no problems. When loading pistol rounds I can load 400 to 500 rounds an hour with no problem. Hornady costumer service is great as well, I had a problem with my .308 die set sent it to them and they sent me a new set.

I have a very old Lee progressive. I use it for my pistol reloading. Rifle I only do single stage.

I also have the lee pro-1000 and load strictly 9mm with it. Other than the primer feed, i have had zero issues in over 4k rounds. I hand prime my rounds with the lee auto prime while inspecting them, so its not a big deal to me to not use the primer feed. Get the tube funnel if you go with the lee. I couldnt pass it up for $129 including dies! With a simple tube, die, and feeder plate change, you can load anything up to .223/5.56. Ive never done anything but 9mm and .40 cal on mine though.

I have one I got from a buddy. He used it and said it wasn't bad, but he would rather do everything on a single stage press. I've never set it up, but I watched him load a few rounds with no issues. If you were closer I would sell it to you cheap if you wanted to try it.

                        Don't do it!!!!!!!

Hornady or Dillon. You can thank me later.

Thanks for input guys. I've been reading exactly what I'm getting here either "great" or "worst thing ever". Tinkering is all part of reloading and I'm only going to use it on 40 maybe eventually get a separate 357 setup.

Unless by "Tinker" you mean "Engineering a new press" I strongly suggest you not buy the Lee progressive.

BTW, I like Lee equipment. I have one of their single stage presses, two of the turret presses, and about 90% of my dies are Lee. They do alot of things right, but the progressive press is not one of them. Case in point: If you ask about a Dillon or Hornady, do half of the people say they're great and half say they suck? No. And there is a reason for it.
