WSM is fun. If you don't relod, you'll save a fair amount of money shooting the ol Winnie instead.

That being said, I LOVE my WSM, and I don't rountienly take shots past 300. Just a cool caliber, and of the 3 my family owns our worst grouping gun still shoots 3/8"

I have a Remington 700 SPS 270WSM that I will be getting ready to sell. It has a aftermarket Hogue Overmolded Green Ghillie stock on it. I bought it but I already had a270win & 7 Rem Mag, and basically the 270WSM falls right in between the 2

Didn't read all responses. But at 300, yeah, you're nuts to go with anything non standard. Or a magnum (I did see that mentioned). Ammo problems aside there's just no reason for it. Want is a whole other issue. If you just want one knock it out. 25-30 cal. In any of your standard offerings will more than get it done

Had a 270 wsm. Sold it for a 260. Between the 2 go with the 270 win

I don't think I would look at going with a 270wsm without looking at a 264 win mag.

I'm reading this and you guy's that have them, what was the damage on an deer? I have a 300 WSM and can't use it on Texas deer, WAY too much gun and it jelled the hole all the way through the deer. I like the 270 WSM ballistic's but, I don't know anyone with one of these guns.

That's all bullet choice dependent. You can use a 300 with the right bullet

Might as well shoot the 300 WSM, that 264 win mag is a beast for the size. I do want to research this one for a long range gun.

That's true but, my gun likes the heavier bullet, 180 gn and I haven't found a heavy bullet that's nice on small TX deer.

                        Chris

Construction not weight. What bullet are you shooting?

Right now, Win ballistic tip 180 gn. Yes, I know, wrong bullet but, it likes the heavier bullet and it shoots good. I'm going to reload this gun and might try the A-max.

That's the problem right there. A-Max is gonna do the same.

The 270 will be more accurate because of the reduced recoil over 7mm.

Roy Hines told me years ago that a lot of lost deer he has been called for were shot with the 7mm.

Yeah a 270 Win with the proper bullet (which is a wide variety) is poison on Whitetail and Muledeer well past what most hunters are capable of shooting. I'll take it over a 7 Mag any day.
