    6 Dasher Build

Well it's not a complete custom build, but it is now ready to roll. A while back a purchased a used benchrest rifle (my first BR rifle) with the idea of rebarreling it to be a long range plinking rig for the farm just for fun. When I purchased it, it was chambered in 6PPC.

I just picked it up from my gunsmith with its new barrel. I have 20 rounds down range so far testing loads and I shot a few 3-shot groups at 100 with different charges. First few groups with different loads all showed promise. The velocity is going to end up being around 3000 fps +/-. The rifle has very little recoil, tracks well in the bags, and the trigger is a dream to pull. The goal is to take this rifle out to 1000 yards.

    The Specs:

Stolle Panda action Right bolt, left port
    McMillan benchrest stock
Krieger 8 Twist #17 Heavy Varmint contour finished at 28"
    Chambered in 6 Dasher
Jewell BR trigger set @ 2 ounces
Leupold 36x with 1/8 MOA Dot Reticle sitting in Kelbly's rings
Extra weight added in butt for balance
Bare rifle weight is 13 lb 5 oz
Running 105 Berger VLDs over Varget in Lapua brass fired by CCI 450 primers

I'll add to this thread as I shoot it more

Great looking stick sir. Is that group from the 6br's you're fire forming or is that from formed brass to your dasher chamber? Should be a fun one to shoot at 600 and 1000 yards.

Enjoy!! Wind and mirage are now your friends!!

I would have had to shoot the ppc bbl before any changes...

I'm shooting hydroformed brass. First shots each case are sharpening the rounded shoulders from hydroforming

Ive got a lot to learn about wind. I'm anxious to nail down my load so I can start moving out. Luckily my GS is and accomplished Dasher F-Class shooter with this same reamer so load work up will be a cinch and he's helping me with wind reading.

I would have loved to shoot the PPC but I had no components to make some ammo. Btw, thanks for encouraging me to get a rifle like this. Gonna have lots of fun with this

They are very addictive...I never shot F-class but had 3 of those guys in 6ppc & 6br for short range at one time.

Shooting Those bug holes can make you crazy!! The wind was a little easier for me deal with than the mirage...gotta get good wind flags. For the mirage, the main tip for me when it was dancing around was to aim/shoot where the target keeps snapping back to repeatedly.

Thanks Ray. Hopefully I'll get some more time to get it dialed in and then we need to get together to shoot. I met Shawn down there at his shop to pick it up this week. I saw more crawfish traps than I have ever seen before. I don't get out on the backroads of LA often.

Well, you were in my back yard -- you should have stopped in, I'd have treated you to a crawfish dinner or something. Can't wait to do some more shooting. I need to visit with you on another matter also, will try to give you a call within the next couple of weeks or so. Take care my friend!
