I've used 65 grain Sierra Gamekings, in my Remington model 7, it stabilized them just fine, also the 70 grain Speer Semi point bullet will stabilize in the standard twist barrels, has been around for a long time and was designed for medium game. 64 grain Winchester Power Points in either factory ammo or handloads, and I have some 64 grain Nosler accubond loaded that ought to be pretty good.

Tkx for all the input. I have been shooting a S&W 1500 with 50gr Win Silvertip for quit a while and this year picked up a Vanguard for the wife. She has 3 deer to her credit so far and I have one (MLD 3) so we still have to the end of the month. I still like the old Nosler Partition mushroom but looks like the Barnes TXS might be the ticket on weight retention and expansion. I think the reason for the change in light weight .223 bullet availability for medium game is pretty well covered on the Weatherby FAQ about ammo.
" Weatherby has changed the twist rate of the Vanguard rifles in the 223 Remington and 308 Winchester chamberings to give the rifle the ability to accurately shoot longer, heavier bullets which are growing in popularity in these chamberings.
The 223 Remington was changed from a 1-14" twist rate to a 1-9" twist rate. The twist rate will be the new 1-9" rate from serial number VB084281.
The 308 Winchester was changed from a 1-12" twist rate to a 1-10" twist rate. The twist rate will be the new 1-10" rate from serial number VB046406."
