    Actions

Where is the best place to find Remington 7 actions? I want to buy a couple to build a 20 VT and maybe a 17 hornet or fireball.

I know Jake at Circle Star Firearms has one. New in box, may give a shout since sponsor on here. It's not one of the blems either.

Rem M7 action won't work for the 17 hornet , since REM never made a hornet sized bolt

Best bet is to buy a complete rifle in 22Hnt and send to GS to install new barrel and chamber

You can do a 17 Fireball or 20 VT as long as you have a 223 sized bolt face

Thanks Blake, is there any advantage of a 7 over a 700 action

Get a bolt from ptg. M7 action is 1/2" shorter but I couldn't tell you where to find one.

The only advantage I can see would be weight and overall length.

It's a bit shorter and lighter but you rarely see one for sale. Therefore, you'll likely pay more for a doner once once is located.

Additionally, you won't find near as many aftermarket stuff for a 7 as you would a 700.

Locating a mod 700 SA with a .223 family boltface shouldn't be hard at all.

As others mentioned, go with the 700 due to aftermarket accessories

Several yrs back Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool & Gauge (PTG) offered an aftermarket 700 bolt with a 5.7FN sized bolt face. Believe they've been discontinued . Call Dave and see if they can make or locate you one.

Another option, several of my friends have custom 17 Ackley Hornets built on a Browning A-Bolt (22 Hnt conversion) . Super clean rifle but zero aftermarket accessories ... Stocks and triggers

You can also build off a CZ hornet action .... Again very few aftermarket accessories

^^^^Now we're talking, were I to build a custom on anything but a 700 a CZ would top the list.
