when sighting in a scope or just practicing, how long do you wait for the barrel to cool between shots?

Depends on outside temp. I wait till it's cool to the touch.

When sighting in it generally only takes me three rounds and I only wait long enough to make scope adjustments. As far as target shooting, I don't wait. When working up loads I will fire 5 rounds then wait an hour to shoot the next 5 and I only do that on cooler days.

i just go by feel. If the barrel is anything more than "luke warm", I will let it cool a bit. On cold days, that may mean I can get in 10 shots in 15 minutes and on hot days that may limit me to 5 shots an hour.

Yes. Outside temp, barrel weight and cartridge being fired all influence barrel heat. Some days I get a shot every 3 minutes & some days it is every 10 minutes.
