Who shoots a Savage axis 22-250?

A friend of mine has just purchased one and asked me to install the scope (meopta meopro) and site it in. He does not reload and I don't reload the 22-250.
I did some google research and it has a 1:12 twist so I bought some Winchester Super X 55 gr. soft points.
The rifle doesn't like this ammo.

Who has this rifle and shoots factory ammo? What does your rifle like?

Thanks for any help y'all can give.

Try some hornady vmax. Think that's what they are called in 50 grain or 55. Mine shoots 50 well and haven't tried the 55. I can say I tried federal fusion and that did not go well.

Federal premium bthp 55 grain shot great in my savage 22-250. 5 shots pretty much one ragged hole. Pigs didn't like it when it hit their head either out to 250 yards.

The Axis is a economy priced rifle. But don't let that scare you. The stock is cheap and didn't feel right to me, so I changed it. Put on a Boyd's with a new trigger guard. The whole feel of the gun is different now. Look up on YouTube, trigger jobs on the Axis. I cut off 1.5 rings off the trigger spring and what a difference it makes. Breaks so much better now. You should get close to MOA accuracy with that rifle. Savage delivers good accuracy at a good price.
              Good luck.

                Thanks everybody for the info.
I'll get some Hornady V Max and give it a try next then Federal Premium. Not really wanting to do a lot of work to the rifle, extreme accuracy isn't needed but at least want moa.

I have one. It shoots great. I am shooting 37 grains of H414 with a 55 gr Hornady V-Max.

You can buy this same ammo from a guy that hits a lot of gun shows. I do not know his name, but he usually has a big booth with a lot of reloaded ammo for sale. $18.00 for twenty rounds.

Mine loves the Hornady 55gr v max. Now if you want something that hits harder and makes an entrance and exit hole, the Barnes 50 grain triple shocks work great on my gun. I shoot Hogs and deer THRU the shoulders and get an exit. Awesome round.

Vmax does great in ours. Proof again you don't have to spend BIG $$ to enjoy our sport.
