Wow, surprised at the range yesterday with the AR-15.

So I had an S&W M&P15 sport model that was my first AR 15 (Bad addiction, don't get started!) about 5 years ago. I've now got a safe full of different AR's in multiple calibers. In all the building of different guns over the last year or so, I've robbed parts and Franken-Gunned this one. Realized the other day that I didn't have a functional 223. So I cobbled it back together with parts-bin stuff. Original sport barrel, old bushmaster upper, carved down lo-pro gas block, $35 stripped lower with as-cheap-as-I-could-find LPK, chicom free float rail, no name BCG, etc., etc. The trigger was a crisp, crunchy 7 pounds. Threw a cheap simmons scope on it I had laying around and took it too the range yesterday. After I got it on paper, it proceeded to group right at 1" at 100 yards in way less than ideal conditions with a hodgepodge of steel ammo. I could barely see the target for the grass. I have to shoot prone at this range, the benches are too tall to see the targets with the bipod on it.

Now, I wonder what I can do with it with a decent trigger and tuned ammo?

I too am a recent AR covert. I got the MP and was shocked how well it shot. I would like another in 300 blk to hunt deer with

Some times its amazing how all the parts meld together and make a shooter. You might put a different BCG in it and turn it into a 3" gun, with mil spec parts you never know. Way to go!
