    Resizing

Do you resize the whole case or just the neck....and why? I had read to resize every time and to just resize the neck.

Neck size only on bolt guns. Perfect fit to chamber for accuracy and less work on the brass which makes it last longer.

I can usually neck size 2 times then I have to bump the shoulder back 2 thousands on the 3rd time. In my AR always full length size.

I full length size always. I have several different guns in the calibers I shoot, so it makes keeping track of everything easier.

This and I use a dry lube which makes for easy clean up.

I adjust my FL die to where it minimum resizes case to where there is no resistance on the bolt when closing (I remove the firing pin assembly to check this)...I don't like to have any added case force on my locking lugs on my hunting rigs.

I use the Hornady headspace comparator and bump the shoulder back .002 on my hunting ammo. It's much easier to get the die set up to bump the shoulder if you use a headspace gauge to set up the die.

Ok. Thanks guys, but I am new to this reloading game and all of what you are saying is greek to me. Could you break it down a little farther so a rookie can understand it. I kind of understand the concept, but the how to and why is getting the better of me.

I know it sounds kind of crazy if you have been doing it a while, but I am a novice and need all the help I can get.

If you neck size which should only be used in the same gun and mostly recommended for bolt guns, then just buy a quality set of dies like Redding competition dies that have 3 dies. Neck die, body die and seater die. Only use the neck die until you start to have troubles clambering the rounds. Then size the body and the neck and you will be good to go.

I'm no expert, but I know enough to tell you to read the how-to section of a good reloading manual. The Hornady book has a good section as does Nosler.

Totally agree. The Lee manual has plenty of information as well.

                              Diamond,

If you decide to neck size & feel excessive pressure when closing the bolt, then run that case back through the FL...worst thing you can do is gall your locking lugs & just takes a bit of crud.

Get some high temp bearing grease & keep those locking lugs slick.
