In what way? Because about the only thing that a 30-06 outperforms a 300 WM on is that is has less recoil and uses less powder.

It shoots faster with every bullet. In shooting every bullet faster, it shoots flatter, reduces wind drift and hits harder in every way.

Now, that being said, I love my standard calibers and a 30-06 will always get the job done in North America, and can kill anything that walks under the sun. But the statement that "a 30-06 exceeds factory 300 wm" is incredibly wrong. I'm currently busy, but in about 10 minutes Ill go pull the data from factory and we can plug it into JBM and see how it all ends up.

Now, a 30-06 /will/ outperform a 308, and if that is what you meant then disregard my above.

I would love to hear more on this subject. Should be educational.

30-06 over a 308 any day for me. I got my 06 when I was 12. Early 70s model 700. Great shooting gun. I recently got a early 70s 700 7 mag. I plan on muzzle braking it. Now my wife shot her first deer with a rem model 788 243. 185 yds he ran 30 and fell. Tack driver. Recently got my daughter a savage 110 243. Gonna be a Christmas present. I'm excited to shoot it. I think a lot of people underestimate the 243. All about shot placement.

I said exceeds and that is not correct I was watching deer and typing. Comparable is what I was meaning. I'm within 50fps of factory 300wm. Currently launching 168amax @ 3200 and a 180 @ 3025.

What powders are you using? That seems pretty fast.

Yeah. I would love to hear about this load.

What barrel lengths are you using? Or are you giving your wm stats. Seems really high for an 06, and I've been around one with a 28" barrel

26" barrel and H4350. .030 off lands. Use long drop tube and work your way up.

Nosler's site is showing 2750 for an 180 grain accubond out of a 30-06 and 2950 for the same bullet out of a 300 win mag. Differences between them and you can be from a number of factors including barrel length, number of grooves of rifling, twist rate, and how the sun, moon and stars lined that day.

Now, if you are comparing hand loads then that is a whole different conversation. The argument of a hand loaded 30-06 vs a factory 300 win is like comparing a hopped up Chevy impala to a factory Camero.

Also, comparing a 24" or even 22" barreled winny to a 28-30" barreled 30-06 can cause them to be close. But when you disregard all that, the 300 win mag will walk on the 30-06 in pure numbers.

All that being said, a 30-06 is a very capable round that can do a great many things and do them all very well, or at least well enough. I will definitely own a 30-06 or two when I get older.

In my hunting pistols the 308 encore or ruger 44 was always present. Now my primary hunting guns are the glock 10 mm paired with either a old 243 or a new ruger 300 blk..just curious if anyone else has finally realized you don't have to shoot the bigger guns to get it done.

                              To the OP

I have a few guns of all ranges of calibers, but when I'm hunting inside of 100 yards I love me some 22-250

Well it's obviously easy to surpass factory loads with hand loads.

The same increase in performance can be had on the 300WM.

I can easily run 250fps over my factory 257 Weatherby loads.
